DAZER

One of the newer bands on the scene, Dazer, released their first EP, With Love, in August of last year, which showcased their unique psychedelic surf-rock sound. While that description is accurate, I find there’s a bit more in their muddied, roomy onslaught of sound. There’s a heaviness that almost reminds me of some of the Butthole Surfers earlier work that still scratches that psychedelic, stoner-rock itch I’ve been looking for in some more contemporary bands. I think that sound is most apparent in the two stand-out tracks for me personally, Squish and Fuk Ron.

I first heard Dazer performing live across the street from Emerge’s INK! Print Rally, and spent most of my time that day staring at the open-air stage, listening to the vibrant and violent sounds emitting from their amps as their lead singer, Rickey Dewitt, sat singing with a cigarette tucked behind her ear. Since then, Dazer has made somewhat of a home at the Black Lodge here in CDA and will be playing another show there on April 25th. If you get the chance, they really play well to a live audience, and there’s something different in how their sound opens up and envelops you when you’re actually in the room with them. Support local bands and venues, don’t be lame.
